City Observes Veterans Day Holiday on Friday In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, city offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11.   The Regional Transit System (RTS) will provide its holiday service, which runs between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., to routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 16, 20, 26, 35, 43, 75 and 711. Residential curbside collection for garbage, recycling and yard trash will not be affected by the holiday.  41st Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show The 41st Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show transforms the streets of downtown Gainesville into a celebration of art and culture on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Peruse the work of over 200 fine artists, watch performances by local musicians and dance groups, learn about various community service organizations and enjoy international cuisine. Cane Boil & Fiddle Fest 2022 Enrich your Thanksgiving holidays with merriment among the piney woods at the annual Cane Boil & Fiddle Fest! Join us on Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! It's fun for the whole family!   Let us transport you back to 1870! Enjoy traditional games and crafts, live Old Time and Americana Music all day, and various historic demonstrations. See the process of sugar cane syrup production from stalk to bottle, ask our interpreters about their lives on our 1870s farm, or take a guided hike through our sandhill ecosystem!  Food trucks and vendors will be available on site. Come on out and have a great time amongst the pines! Flat Rate Parking on Game Days The city's Southwest Parking Garage (105 SW Third St.) in downtown is offering flat rate parking of $5 per day on upcoming home Gator football games and other special events. The flat rate will be implemented on the following dates: Friday, Oct. 28-Sunday, Oct. 30 (The FEST) Saturday, Nov. 12 Saturday, Nov. 19-Sunday, Nov. 20 (Downtown Festival & Art Show) Youth Basketball registration open Youth Coed Basketball = Sportsmanship + Character! Practices take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center. Games begin in January and take place in Alachua County and the surrounding areas. There are limited spaces available! Register early because teams fill quickly. Important dates include: Registration closes Wednesday, Nov. 30; no registrations are accepted after this date. Player evaluations: Monday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. (kids age 5-6), at 7:30 p.m. (kids age 7-8) and 8:30 p.m. (kids age 9-10) Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. (kids age 11-12), at 7:30 p.m. (kids age 13-14) and 8:30 p.m. (make-up evaluation for all ages) Parent meetings: Will be held on the first practice day for your team. To help, below are the details on residential garbage and recycling collection services in the City of Gainesville through the start of the new year. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24– Services will be delayed a day for residents with Thursday collection days only. Thursday services will be completed on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022. Residents with collection days before Thursday will be serviced on their normal day. Please note, city offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. Christmas Day, Dec. 25– Services will be completed on regularly scheduled collection days for the week before and the week after Christmas Day this year. City offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26. New Year’s Day, Jan. 1– Services will be completed on regularly scheduled collection days for the week following New Year’s Day. City offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2.
