I used RTS to commute to and from UF almost daily from the late ‘70’s to my retirement.  Although the early days were a “rough ride”, what it is now (since the 1998 agreement) is a resounding success story.  UF, and all of Gainesville and Alachua County, benefit from an effective public transit system.  The UF Campus Transit Study prepared by a consultant that you hired found the following: “RTS provides service that is cheaper than the average for its peer systems in terms of cost per service-hour.  Cost per service hour is the primary basis for the current contract and an industry standard.  To this end, it is unlikely that insourcing the operations or switching to another third-party operator would yield substantial savings for UF.”  UF should be working with all of the community to continually support and improve RTS' effectiveness.
