Over the last decade, 1 in 3 Americans have been impacted by fine and fee debt, forcing many to give up food, rent and other basic needs just to pay them off. But egregious court fines and fees practices cannot be fixed with a single, new law or policy — they look different in every community. It’s not enough for meaningful reform to happen at the state level, it must be local too.

Cities & Counties for Fine and Fee Justice (CCFFJ) is a national leadership network of policy makers and local advocates dedicated to pursuing high-impact local fine and fee reforms. Led by the Fines and Fees Justice Center, Results for America, and the San Francisco Financial Justice Project, the CCFFJ leadership network receives customized technical and strategic assistance, including access to policy, research, communications and data expertise on fines and fees policies. As a result, CCFFJ teams have enacted significant local reforms across the country such as eliminating in-custody fees and court fees, ending debt-based license suspensions, and dozens more
