Floridians,

This week, I urged homeowners across the state to strengthen their homes against storms by taking advantage of the Home Hardening Sales Tax Exemption before it ends on June 30. This sales tax exemption has been an incredible help to Floridians, as homeowners have saved an estimated $462.6 million on taxes statewide. If you strengthen your home by installing impact-resistant items like windows, doors, and garage doors, you are eligible for mandatory premium savings from your homeowners insurance company. Learn more here.
Secondly, as Florida’s insurance market is starting to see positive signs, recently, a Senator from Rhode Island has taken a special interest in Florida's affairs. While we were taking steps to improve Florida’s insurance market, according to one ethics complaint, Senator Whitehouse has been bankrolling his wife’s environmental company, and I’m concerned that Citizens may be their next target. As every one of his communications to Citizens has focused on turning over records and transparency, we hope he takes my request for more information seriously and practices what he preaches.

Lastly, this week, I announced the arrest of four individuals in Miami-Dade County for allegedly staging an automobile accident to exploit their auto insurance policy for financial gain. Staging auto accidents is incredibly dangerous, and fraud like this drives up costs for every Floridian in the form of higher insurance premiums. It doesn’t matter how clever the scheme may be; if you commit insurance fraud in Florida, you will be caught and brought to justice.

Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to search for unclaimed property at FLTreasureHunt.gov!

Sincerely,
