***This Email is Being Blind Copied to All Commissioners***

Ms. Murphy,

I am in receipt of your email below regarding CR 234.  I understand your comments regarding the overall condition of the County’s road system.  Unfortunately, up until recently, the County has not had a dedicated funding source to fund a Pavement Management System and, currently, there is a 30-to-40-year road surface maintenance backlog.

I am copying Mr. Donald E. Clifton, Road Superintendent, and am asking him to review the condition of CR 234 for potholes and issue the necessary work orders.  I am also asking Mr.  Clifton to issue a work order for the removal of the palm tree that fell and intrudes into the edge of road on the west side of 234.

Thanks to the voters approving the Infrastructure SurTax, and the Board’s decision to allocate approximately $7.6 million from General Fund (Property Taxes) in addition to 70% of the 2nd half of the Infrastructure SurTax towards the County’s Pavement Management Program. On May 23rd, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners approved the County’s Transportation Capital Improvement Program (TCIP).   The estimated value of the program (2023 – 2032) is estimated at $241.9 million dollars, including roadway surface improvements, signals, pedestrian facilities, and major bridge maintenance.

The following sections of CR 234 are set to be improved in the adopted TCIP:

For your information, the link below contains a map that enables the public to view the locations of the TCIP projects and minor details of those projects. The nature of a 10-year plan is very complex and this map is a reasonable solution that provides the citizens of Alachua County some addition insight into “where the money is being used”; however, it is not meant to be burdened with every detail of the projects. It contains general information on the many projects that are in the recently adopted transportation capital improvement plan (TCIP).

Dear Ramon and Ken or forward to most appropriate commissioner,

Any update when 234 will be repaved? We drive county roads all over Florida and Georgia and would say it is the worst I have seen.   It seems it has recently had some random patching but the roughness has not improved especially near Hickory Ranch (which is part of Payne’s Praire SP if understand that correctly).

As a FYI: There is a palm tree that fell and intrudes into the edge of road on the west side of 234.  It is not damaging but probably should be cut back.

Thank you,

Tanya Murphy

Subject: Low hanging limbs on County Rd 234

CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.

Hello county commissioners,
Many tree limbs hang low in this road and besides being incredibly rough, it is also a hazard to vehicles of higher heights.  The area around the cemetery to Camps Canal is particularly bad with both issues (low limbs and very rough road).
Is there a way to have the addressed? We now have a damaged RV due to a limb.

Thank you,
Tanya Murphy
