Dear Alachua County Board of County Commissioners, We wanted to follow up via email regarding our public comment at yesterday's meeting- when we delivered a letter from over 150 Alachua County health care workers in support of BOCC passing a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. In our public comment we requested for a ceasefire resolution to be added to the county commissioners' agenda in the coming weeks. We are waiting for your response to this request. Please let us know when it will be added to the agenda. Also please inform us if you would like us to draft new wording for a ceasefire resolution, or if it's preferred to work with the resolution you previously had on your agenda in January 2024- and update it with current statistics (and any other input you would like to be considered). While we realize there may be hesitancy in revisiting this issue, we want to point out that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has only become more dire since the last time BOCC discussed it. In January 2024 there were 20,000 deaths in Gaza reported, and now the death toll in Gaza has passed 31,000 people- including 13,000 children. (Gaza Ministry of Health) We as health care workers can not stand by in silence as the death toll continues to climb. We are asking you as our elected leaders to join us in calling for a ceasefire. On March 3rd we held a vigil to honor the health care workers of Gaza, both those killed and those surviving. (Over 400 doctors, nurses, and other health care workers in Gaza have been killed since October 2023). We sent you all an invitation to the vigil but are not aware if any of you were able to attend. Attached to this email are a few pictures from the vigil. We hope that these pictures help demonstrate that though this catastrophe may seem far away from Alachua County, the truth is that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to be felt deeply by many in our community. We look forward to your prompt reply. Thank you, Alachua County Health Care Workers for Gaza ######################################################################## Access the MARY-ALFORD Home Page and Archives: http://listserv.alachuacounty.us/scripts/wa.exe?A0=MARY-ALFORD Unsubscribe from the MARY-ALFORD List: http://listserv.alachuacounty.us/scripts/wa.exe?SUBED1=MARY-ALFORD ########################################################################
