US Notches Grim Record of Over 152,000 New Coronavirus Cases in One Day

US notches grim record of over 152,000 new coronavirus cases in one day. The United States on Thursday recorded more than 152,000 coronavirus infections, surpassing a daily increase of 150,000 for the first time since the pandemic hit the country earlier this year, according to The New York Times.

The grim record comes after the U.S. first reached 100,000 new cases in a single day last week.

According to The Covid Tracking Project, the number of hospitalizations due to the virus hit a record of 67,096 on Thursday, making it the third straight day of record hospital numbers.

First Wave of COVID-19 Vaccine Will Need to be Rationed. How will Florida Decide?

About 3.5 million Floridians, mostly healthcare providers, medically vulnerable and first responders, could be given priority status when the first doses of the long-awaiting coronavirus vaccine arrive in the state, according to a draft report from the Florida Department of Health.

Will the state even get that many doses and if not who decides where the first ones go? Those are some of the many unanswered questions as the state prepares for the first vaccine delivery as early as December.

Labs Sound Alarm on Coronavirus Testing Capacity, Supplies

WASHINGTON — Clinical laboratories are warning they could soon face delays processing coronavirus tests, similar to slowdowns this summer, as infections again surge to record numbers across the country.

The nation’s testing capacity has increased, but not fast enough to keep pace with the swarm of new cases. Over the past week, the U.S. conducted nearly 10 million coronavirus tests, an increase of 12.5 percent from the previous week, while confirmed cases rose 40.8 percent to more than 875,000.

Hopes for an end-of-the-year coronavirus relief deal are off to a rocky start, raising fresh questions about the chances for a long-elusive agreement before January.

Neither side is signaling any interest in backing down, with both saying they have more leverage because of the elections.

WFTV:
White House: COVID-19 Mitigation Efforts Should be Reinstituted in Florida

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The White House’s Coronavirus task Force report has Florida in the red zone for new infections. Still the report, which was obtained by ABC News, shows Orange County and the state is looking better than it was last week.

The rate of new COVID-19 cases in Florida has been steadily increasing since October. The state currently ranks 31st in the nation for new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people. Coronavirus restrictions were lifted in Florida roughly six weeks ago. The task force report said it has “seen significant deterioration in the sunbelt as mitigation efforts were decreased.”

Q&A with CDC

What cleaning products should I use to protect against COVID-19?

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, clean them using detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.

To disinfect, most common EPA-registered household disinfectants will work. Most States Aren’t Ready to Distribute the Leading COVID-19 Vaccine

As the first coronavirus vaccine takes a major stride toward approval, state governments’ distribution plans show many are not ready to deliver the shots.

The challenge is especially steep in rural areas, many of which are contending with a surge of infections, meaning that access to the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines may be limited by geography.

Pfizer announced Monday that its vaccine demonstrated more than 90% effectiveness and no serious bad reactions in early trial results—an impressive outcome that will pave the way for the company to seek an emergency authorization once it collects more safety data for another week or two.
