As I'm writing this email, 77,076,504 votes have been counted for President-elect Joe Biden.
That is a record-shattering number. Go read it again -- and as you do, imagine each one of the 77,076,504 people who cast their vote. Those votes came from the millions of young people who participated in our democracy for the first time, the overwhelming number of Black and brown voters who turned out strong across the country despite attempts at voter suppression, the rural and working class voters who refused to buy what Donald Trump tried to sell them.
We voted for change, for justice, decency, and science. We voted for the opportunity to forge a new path and imagine a better world during a year that has tested us on just about everything.
The Biden-Harris administration provides an opportunity for the bold, transformative change we've all been working so hard for. That's where all of you continue to come in.
Tomorrow, we'll talk about the crucial role we all must play in creating the more just, equitable, and sustainable world that we voted for. Our vision is simple: everyone should have fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, safe homes and healthy communities, good jobs with family-sustaining wages -- no matter our race, gender, income or zip code.
We'll share how you can get involved right now -- whether it's with one of Sierra Club's 64 local chapters, in community-based teams working for 100% clean and renewable energy locally, or by adding your voice to the nearly 4 million Sierra Club members and supporters taking collective action to protect people and our planet.
I know we're up against some enormous challenges. Our country is divided, and far too many were willing to endorse or overlook Trump's racism, sexism, and climate denial.
But I also know that the power of united people defeated a dangerous threat to everything we hold dear, and it's the power of united people that will make it possible to shift the course of this country towards justice.
We, the people, are powerful. Yes, we have a lot of work to do, and we're going to do it together.
