Chair Alford and Commissioners,
The cover page of this Report issued in 2009 is the face of 189 pages of comprehensive data, information and suggested actions for policy. This was issued almost 15 years ago.

As you may or may not know, I have been actively engaged in Alachua County and Florida government agencies for almost 30 years. This report is a basis for my frustration, outrage and anger with Alachua County BOCC for falling behind on policy decisions to meet the demands of the times we are facing. We have been waiting for the “climate action plan” which was directed by the BOCC to be completed by the end of 2021. The BOCC approved spending close to $800,000 to Jones Edmunds for assistance with data collections for this plan.

In the presentation today, you will be shown a photo of a mall built in 1969 in Pennsylvania, as the bar to overcome and reach a goal of development reflected in Celebration Point. Seriously?
Where is the public transportation, solar panels, native/edible landscape, community gardens, variety of housing options, green roof tops, shade, employment options, cistern water collections, etc etc etc.
Look at a photo of the Alachua County Sports and Events Center. The Center looks like it was built in 1969. Is this the best Alachua County can do? So disappointing and just plain irresponsible. The landscape of the Events Center is not native and includes permanent irrigation. There are no solar panels, no light tubes or windows for natural lighting, no green roof for energy conservation. The list goes on and on.

I will continue to advocate for responsible government and a sustainable future for my children. Please do the same.

Tamara Robbins
