Good Afternoon,

Congratulations to Board Members Certain and Cornell! Both were sworn in for their respective Board positions again since we last met. Thank you both for your service and all you do for our community.

This was another short week for us at the Trust. Several staff are on vacation and the rest of us were here making the donuts before heading out for the holidays.

Here is my overview for the week:

* I visited Sherry Kitchens at the Child Advocacy Center on Monday. Sherry provided me with an overview of the work they do and how integral CAC is to ensuring law enforcement can prosecute perpetrators of abuse. After the tour, Sherry, one of her board members, and I spoke for about an hour. The Trust is completing a contract with CAC which will enable them to hire 2.5 more staff. They spoke to me about the number of children not receiving services due to their lack of funding. We also spoke about exploring how we can use their services as a resource for all of our providers. One of my takeaways was how lucky we are to have a Center here in our community. I look forward to working more closely with them.

*Staff and I tabled at SWAG during its Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway. We were thrilled at the number of parent surveys we were able to collect. We also were able to capture feedback from the Hispanic parents on-site as well. We are blessed to have Liz Cayson on our staff to help translate and assist our Spanish speaking families. We also shared Trust Listening Project information in all their bags provided to the families. SWAG is awesome! We will be reaching out to other providers to do something similar during high volume times.

*We received notification from our second Finance Director Candidate that she would not be available for the interview. She did not ask for an opportunity to reschedule. After discussion, the committee agreed that we had our new director and there was no reason to prolong our process. We made an offer and it was accepted. We hope to have our new Director in house by December 15th.

*I took seven staff to Thanksgiving lunch at Harry’s. Member Cornell joined us. A good time was had by all. FYI- Try the Oreo Beignets if you want a delicious dessert! We will do it again before everyone leaves for Christmas/Winter Holidays.

This Thanksgiving, as I reflect on what I am thankful for, I have to add the Trust to the top of the list. I have the pleasure of working with people dedicated to ensuring all children are safe, healthy, educated, and supported. I am proud to be a part of a great staff committed to the organization’s mission. And, I am blessed to be back in my hometown working toward goals that align with my purpose. I am truly thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Marsha Kiner
