This was taken around 8pm in front of Panera/ Hobby Lobby located on Newberry Road. These people are regulars that have set up to live in this area. I see the same people and have for a long time panhandling and leaving trash along Newberry Road. They also sit in the median and weave through traffic. This behavior is unsafe for them and also extremely unsafe for our drivers. On my way home from work tonight I had a panhandler cross when he did not have the ride if way or designated safe to cross light.
I’ve been asking you for years to consider the safety of the citizens who live, work, pay taxes in Alachua County. Due to you and the board continuously ignoring our safety it appears you do not care about the people you asked to elect you and took an oath to protect.
You have a chance to make a change. The panhandlers can go to Grace Marketplace for assistance but they cannot be allowed to set up a home on Newberry Road
