Dear Ms. Gottchalk,

This is still under discussion and a new emergency order with this provision has not been signed yet. The discussion has evolved into possibly using a simple online registration with no fee. The challenge is that the data is showing that unsafe behavior at private social gatherings is the hot spot, nationwide, for virus transmission,

I am forwarding your email to the County Commissioners.

Sincerely,

Mark Sexton

Affairs Director

    Mr. Sexton,

I find the piece of legislature regarding a mandate that residents of Alachua County obtain a permit to host gatherings of 10 or more people to be an overreach by the county. This seems to be a way for the county to receive more funding through the permitting process in the midst of the economic decline for most residents of the county due to the COVID-19 shutdown. The current decline of COVID-19 cases both state and county wide also raises questions regarding whether or not this piece of legislature is necessary.

    Thank you,
    Sandra Gottschalk
