I am a resident of Newberry and own my home is in the community of The Greens at Westend. I wish to speak about my concerns with this new proposed multiple purpose development. I am disturbed by this plan and opposed to this plan.

When the Greens PUD was plotted and approved, the Westend golf course area was zoned recreational . Most of the higher density use areas were approved because of this open area.

In recent years the “Planned Urban Development” has seemed to to become whatever the next developer wants to do, and now seems to aim to cover every open area with high density use construction.
Just in the last 18 months, 2 large apartment complexes (one with retail options), a
townhouse community, and an individual home community are being built, and the existing Arbor Greens community is slated to add over 200 homes. In addition the area of SW 8th Avenue west of Tioga, is being cleared for further growth as well at the end of SW 143rd Street.

The traffic Produced by current residents, and workers entering Gainesville from outlying cities overwhelm the west Newberry Road area. There is already traffic jams and dangerous turnouts.
Local schools are over capacity, with the school board saying they are under capacity on the east side of Gainesville and not addressing the population growth in the west side.

I ask you, where is the oversight and the planning?

All the new development on the west side of the county certainly does nothing to revitalize the east side of Gainesville and actually continues to draw down from that area. You as commission should have put up a stop sign a long time ago.
Now is the time for you do what is best for the residents, homeowners and communities of this Jonesville Newberry area and NOT rezone the golf course from its current designation as recreation.
WE, the residents of Jonesville Newberry area, want it to be an open space and eventually a park. This is a perfect example of why , as voters, we approved the Wild Spaces and Public Places Tax.
Begin now to represent US, your Constituency.
