Dear Commissioner:

We are hopeful you will consider your expertise in growth, land use, transportation and environment and your love of out-door recreation when you make your decision on amending the Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2019 - 2040 and the rezoning of the West End Golf Course property. There are many reasons to keep this approximately 75-acre property zoning Recreational. Three very important reasons are urban sprawl, air and water quality, traffic and alternative transportation.

TND or Urban Sprawl A Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) allows a concentrated density of mixed housing types, interconnected street grids, a discernable center, commercial establishments with sidewalks, hidden parking, access to public transportation and green space. Urban Sprawl is defined as the rapid expansion of cities building new residential and commercial development at a density higher than what is typically found in the existing community. The developer’s plan looks very much like Urban Sprawl.

Air and Water Quality Replacing trees and foliage with houses and cement increase pollution. The levels of carbon dioxide, increased water runoff and erosion and increased temperature, by as much as 10 degrees, is detrimental to the health and quality of life for the citizens of Jonesville.

Traffic and Alternative Transportation With the already existing number of homes in the Jonesville community and 1,492 homes currently under construction, adding another 487 with a hotel and commercial business will cause gridlock. Currently, the travel time to get to the hospitals and university, which are east of I-75, can take up to 45 minutes. There is no alternative transportation west of Ft. Clarke Blvd. Out of control building, in the Jonesville area, is already causing increased pollution, accidents and frustrated citizens.

We are asking you to vote NO to amend the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and NO to change the zoning on the West End Golf Course property.

Sincerely,
Nikki Kragiel
