Hello Commissioner Wheeler,
I am with the committee that puts on an annual “Civics Challenge” (CC) for Alachua County public school (ACPS) 7th graders. This year we again host an in-person, “family feud” competition for middle school teams, Wednesday, April 17, from 9-3, on the second floor of the County Admin building.
We also help provide for a virtual competition for all 7th grade Civics students, and this year, for the first time, we will expand to include a virtual competition for high school US history students.
Jon Rehm, the curriculum head for Social Studies, K-12 who is cc’d here, is the developer and organizer for the CC with ACPS. He can answer any questions you might have about the curriculum or the competition.
Would you consider being the introductory speaker for the live competition, in the Commission chambers on Wednesday morning, 4/17, at 9:00 am?
We would love for you to speak to the students for 15-20 minutes about the importance of Civics and perhaps, why you chose to get involved in County government?
Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you are willing to be our keynote speaker. We hope you will agree and look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Anne Shermyen
Civics Challenge Committee
