Good afternoon,

We live at 21601 Old Providence Road Alachua. To get to our home we have to drive down either Old Bellamy Road or NE 218th Avenue to turn on to Old Providence Road.

It used to be on every trash day (Fridays) they would grade the roads. This has not been done in over 2 months and it is almost unbearable to drive down, even if you are in a pick up truck or SUV.

We have predominantly older people who live off these three roads. Many of them are Disabled Veterans or have disabilities. I am concerned for their safety as well as anyone who may have to walk down these roads.

I travel for work (US Army) and my husband works early mornings at the University of Florida. Therefore, our daughter has to walk to her bus stop located on NW Country Road 241 and NE 218th Avenue. I have advocated and petitioned the Alachua County School Board to change her pick up spot and they have declined.

These road conditions are in such disarray and are beyond deteriorated, they are prime for an accident to happen.

There are parts that have deep potholes, washboarding so severe you can go approximately 3 mph, and a few areas where the sand it is so soft, you can lose control of your vehicle. There are a few people who fly up and down these three roads despite their deplorable conditions.

If there is any type of medical emergency or fire, where services are needed, I am not sure how any emergency vehicle would be able to safely get to the situation in a timely manner and safely transport said individual.

I have called several numbers with no response and I will continue to advocate for the safety of everyone who lives off these roads.

Lastly, two-weeks ago as I was exiting the Newberry Road exit, my steering locked up and I totaled my car. I do believe prior to this accident, these road conditions weakened the steering pinion on my vehicle.

Thank you for any help. If there are other departments or individuals who could assist please forward this email and CC me or feel free to call me at the number below.
