Good morning,
The hosting of the World Masters sporting event is not only a huge waste of resources on a global scale, the climate foot print is enormous. The list of deliverables demands mass consumerism and the need to utilize new and ever depleting resources.
What about the “zero waste” policy? Think about the amount of waste generated by an event like this;disposable bottles, disposable food supplies and just the food itself. The hosting of this event does not offer any benefits which makes Alachua county a better place to work and live.
The idea of “ being on the world stage” brings a question to mind: why would you want to be on the world stage? How does this ego based effort benefit the citizens of this county and does it solve any of the problems facing us at this time. Problems like housing, violence, climate impacts, infrastructure needs etc. need the attention, not more tourism.
Stop this unknown and unnecessary effort now.
