Thank you for your email. On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners and Chair Robert "Hutch" Hutchinson, Alachua County was recently made aware of an incident involving a detention officer's treatment of an inmate at the Alachua County Jail. We are very concerned about the report detailing the detention officer's treatment of this individual. Detention Officer Ulrich has been arrested and charged with battery and tampering with a witness. The County takes the safety and welfare of individuals at the jail very seriously. Investigations into this matter are ongoing and we will be carefully monitoring this case.

Hello Commissioners.

I would like to know your stance on the issue concerning the abuse that is happening within the Alachua county jail against inmates. What are you all doing to rectify this treatment? Is there anyway that you all can come together to make this stop and hold officers accountable? From what I understand there have been server all incidents of abuse and only one officer has been arrested. This is not okay. Please do something as our elected officials.

Thank you
