The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture Programs for January 2019. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent.

Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop – January 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the UF East Campus Sunshine Skyway Conference Room (2140 NE Waldo Road, Building #1603, Gainesville, FL 32609) and The Family Garden Farm (1655 SE 23 Place, Gainesville, FL 32641) (see attached flyer)

This workshop will focus on winter orchard management and pruning techniques. Please bring loppers and hand pruners if you have them available. 

Workshop will be hosted at two locations: 

•	9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.: UF East Campus, 2140 N.E. Waldo Road, Building #1603, Gainesville, FL 32609 (Sunshine Skyway Conference Room)
•	11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: The Family Garden Farm, 1655 SE 23 Place, Gainesville, FL 32641 (hands- on activity outdoors)
•	
Registration fee is $20.00, pre-register through Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/y79ms59b by January 14 (late registration $30). Free visitor parking is available, see attached map for directions to the UF East Campus.  There will be no refunds for the registration fee. 


Hydroponic Vegetable Nutrient Management – January 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Suwannee Valley Agricultural Center (8202 CR 417, Live Oak, FL 32060) (see attached flyer)

This program will feature classroom and lab activities designed to help Hydroponic Vegetable Growers to manage their crop nutrients.

The topics and activities to be covered include:

•	Plant nutrient basics
•	Water quality and media selections
•	How to mix your own fertilizer
•	Understanding the role of pH in your water
•	Monitoring and adjusting nutrient solutions
•	How injectors work
•	Hands-on lab sessions
•	Equipment and meters

The registration fee is $85.00 and includes lunch, refreshments, and class materials. Please pre-register through Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/y8qrvyo6 by January 30.
