My family are adjacent land owners and own a portion of Kanapaha Prairie basin. We have lived, farmed, been stewards of and loved this land for 5 generations. We are unhappy that we were not notified about the meeting and possible action being taken. Following is a statement from the family.

Though We are sympathetic to the flooding concerns of our neighbors, as adjacent property owners and owners of a portion of Kanapaha Prairie basin, we feel strongly that any water management that is implemented for the purposes of flood attenuation, must be actively managed with aims to keep flows into Kanapaha Prairie and Pierson’s Sink as natural as possible. Once flooding threats are passed for homes built in the floodplain, water control structures built with the purpose of downstream flood attenuation should be as hydrologically transparent as possible, letting natural drainage patterns take course. Permanent impoundments up stream, effectively diverting and permanently storing water are not acceptable to us as downstream parties.

Thank you for consideration.
